The department said over the 43-year observation period (1981–2024), six of the ten hottest years were recorded since 2015, all occurring within the past decade. Last year’s national average temperature stood at 27.55 degrees Celcius, ranking it fourth behind 2016, 1998, and 2019. Malaysia recorded its highest national average temperature in 2016 at 27.84 degrees Celcius, followed by 1998 (27.70 degrees Celcius) and 2019 (27.63 degrees Celcius). The highest temperature of 2024 was logged in Chuping, Perlis, which saw the mercury climb to 39.0 degrees Celcius on March 23, 2024. INTERACTIVE: EV boom highlights charging bay shortage

Malaysia’s vehicle-to-charger ratio currently stands at 13 EVs per charger nationwide, an increase of 18% compared to 11 a year ago. As of June 30, figures from the Malaysia Electric Vehicle Charging Network (MEVnet) dashboard show that there were 4,161 public EV charging bays across 1,374 locations nationwide. This is a 61% increase from The Star’s previous analysis in July 2024 when 2,585 bays were installed. Despite the increasing number of charging stations being built, EV registrations have been rising at an even faster pace. There are currently 52,418 EVs on the roads as of June 30 this year, with a sharp increase recorded since January. PETALING JAYA: Sabah is heading to the ballot box once again, as voters prepare to elect their state assemblymen in the upcoming 17th state election. A total of 73 state seats will be up for contest, with the Election Commission (EC) setting Nov 29 as polling day. Nomination day has been fixed for Nov 15, while early voting will take place on Nov 25. The previous state election took place on Sept 26, 2020, recording a voter turnout of 66.28%.
